Drawing – Introduction

This short course is perfect for complete beginners as well as more experienced artists looking to refresh their knowledge and sharpen their technical skills.

Over four consecutive weeks, you’ll build a strong foundation in drawing by exploring essential principles that lead to a deeper understanding of how to observe and represent the world on paper.

Starting with the basics — composition, proportion, form, and perspective — you’ll progress toward more complex concepts like light, tonal values, materiality, and texture. Working through observation from life, you’ll develop both technical accuracy and creative perception.

Course Outline:
Week 1: Laying the Foundation
Learn the core principles of composition, measurement, and perspective.

Week 2: Still Life – Defining Form
Practice hatching and cross-hatching, explore tonal values, and learn to create harmony and dynamic.

Week 3: Still Life – Texture and Technique
Focus on finishing your still-life drawing by developing surface textures and conveying material qualities.

Week 4: Final Artwork
Choose your own subject and medium — pencil, charcoal, or crayon — to create a completed drawing using the skills you have developed.
